Out Of The Mouths Of Babes

I know it's been a minute.  I've been meaning to update for the longest.  Today's entry is going to be a long one.  Go get your drink, start your supper, I'll wait:)

My son is the funniest person I know.  He has this dry humor about him.  He starts these conversations with me with a straight face which makes it even funnier for me because he acts so serious.

The other night he comes in to me and says, “Mom, we need to talk.“  Anyone with a child knows to sit down when they spout out that sentence.  I take a deep breath.  He then rounds it off with, “Mom, can we talk about my butt?“  I lost it.  He's 6 years old.  I think, what do we need to have a conversation about his butt for?

Then last night we have a meaningful conversation about none other than diarrhea.  DJ calls it diarrear though.  He had a touch of it a week or so ago and now he can't help but throw it in the conversation as many times as possible.   He starts explaining it to me.  He compares it to warm mudpies, cold coffee with pepper.  He has such an active imagination.  Six and a half years ago, I would take time out during the day and imagine what it would be like to have a child.  What kinds of things would we do?  What would we talk about?  Now I know, diarrear.

I took him to see Shrek 2 this week.  Excellent movie.  Everyone needs to go see it.  The only time DJ is quiet is when we go to the movies.  It's amazing.  We did get there a half hour early.  Of course I heard 30 times, “Mom, is the movie starting?“  Once it started, my son entered Shrek world and didn't come out until the ending credits when he proceeded to talk non-stop until he fell asleep an hour later:)

We're riding home from the movies in the car.  He tells me I'm a great mom.  I asked him what made me great.  He told me because I'm fun and I take him places.  I hope he still feels this way when he's a teenager.  “No you may not get pierced, tattooed, etc, etc.“

Next week is Harry Potter 3.  DJ is on pins and needles just thinking about it.  The posters are out and the trailer played at the movies.  We had to mark it on the calendar.  I promised him next Saturday.  I never see a movie when it first comes on the weekend.

The last time I saw a movie on opening weekend was Spider-Man.  That was for DJ of course.  I purchased the tickets early that day online.  We waited and went a half hour before the movies started.  My partner in crime (aka MGB) and I decided to wait until a few minutes before the previews started to go in and get seats.  We go in and tehre is not ONE seat .  Now we have 3 tickets.  Not one seat.  My son is so upset at this point and we had to wait 1 hour before the next movie started.  This time we waited in line to go sit down so we got a seat first thing.

I still have nightmares about that.
