Everyday Miracles

Hi all!  I'm back.  Pops pulled through....finally.  He's in rehab now.  He will be there about 6 weeks or so.  I don't get it.  One day he was dying, the next he was awake and the day after breathing on his own!  I'm not going to question it, though.  I'm just going to be thankful he's pulled through again.  He's promised to get in shape, quit smoking, exercise daily and stop working.

I know this update sucks, but, I've been crazy busy and promise to sit down this week and write a much more detailed entry.  But I do want to catch up with YOUR lives as well.  So, I have loads of reading to do.  I'm sure you will all see a comment or two pop up from me in your archives:)

Tomorrow is DJ's birthday.  Where do the years go, really?  Seven years old.  My girlfriend told me her son started liking girls at 8.  I'm really not ready for this!

To Be Continued....

My father was taken to the hospital this weekend.  The doctors do not expect him to make it.

Supermom!

Hiya, folks.  Remember me?  It started out as one of THOSE weeks.  You know how they go, right?  DJ came down with a fever that turned into pink eye.  But the storm has passed!  I absolutely hate pink eye.  DJ gets pink eye at least once a year.  Let me tell you, it's not fun.  Other years I've had to football tackle him and SIT ON HIM.  Yes, you heard me right.  I have had to sit on him to put the eye drops in.  How messed up is that?  BUUUUUTTTT, not this time:)  It only took us 6 years, but we finally have a strategy in place.

He will lay on the couch with his head on the armrest.  He closes his eyes.  I put the drop in the corner.  He opens his eyes so it can trickle in.  Then closes them for a minute.  For the past two days I've had absolutely no problems whatsoever with the eye drops.  Oh yea, he's getting a present this weekend.

It also seems like I have lost 8 lbs.  Thank you, Maintenance Man!  I was telling my coworker today, I always seem to lose weight when I have sex on a regular basis.  Mr Big didn't count.  I was lucky if I saw him once a month.  But the Maintenance Man...wow.  So I'm sharing this bit of information with my coworker and he turns to me and says, "What happens if you swallow?  Is that considered protein or a carb?"  I had to giggle.

¿Habla usted español?

I never did get around to blogging around when my mother DJ's Nanny came to visit him on Monday.  I'm not going to get too much into because it will put me in a bad mood but she did buy him the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone game for his Gamecube.  He was really excited about and started playing it on Tuesday.

On Tuesday he had a major meltdown because he was getting frustrated because he couldn't get to Hogwarts, etc, etc.  I calmed him down and told him to play some other games because the Gamecube is supposed to be fun, not put someone in tears.  Last night he started playing the game and I could hear him in my room getting frustrated.  No meltdown...yet frustrated.  I go in and try to head off the meltdown because Lord knows we don't need any more of those.

I walk in and just stop with my mouth dropped open.  The game is EN ESPANOL!  Oh boy, oh boy.  Why doesn't DJ share this information with me?  All of the words are in spanish, all the voices were spanish speaking.  No wonder DJ was having a rough time with it!  He has enough problems with ENGLISH for crying out loud!

I say to him:  Baby, did you change the language?

DJ:  No, it's in Spanish Mommy.  Uno, dos, tres, quatro, cinco.  (Tell me something I don't know.  Yes my 6 year old can count to 5 in spanish.  How cool is that?)

I take the controls from him and save the game.  I took up to Spanish 3 in high school and I can comprehend a bit of spanish.  I found the option for language and switched it to English.

I must say though I'm pretty amazed at my little guy for going as far as he did just on hearing and reading spanish.

Just One of Those Days...

Today was the kind of day I should have just flipped off the world, rolled over and went back to sleep.  Nope.  Stupid me just had to get out of bed and pretend I was an adult today!  First, DJ missed the busI was evidently running late and made DJ miss the bus.  I had to drive him to school.  It's not that big of a deal, but the bus comes around 7ish and school starts around 8:30ish.  Then I have to wait with him in line and wait until he walks in his classroom because he thinks it's cool Mommy drove him into school today.

Then it decides to start raining.  No, actually it was only misty out.  But ANYTIME water falls from the sky in Philly, the drivers on I95 all slam on their brakes like they're the wicked witch or something.  Hence, I was two hours late to work.  I guess I should be glad I at least had my pants on the right way.

Our department lunch was cancelled.  I brought in no food and no money so I had to beg money off someone.  Of course, the Primadonna was in and the heat was jacked up to 79.  I was nice and sticky most of the day.  I'm going to pull out my damned tube tops.  I've had it!

Wait!  It gets better.  I leave a tad bit early today only to find out there was a huge accident on I-95 near my exit and all lanes are closed.  Luckily I found out before I was stuck and was able to get off at another exit - along with everyone else.  Now I'm running late to pick up my baby from the bus.

I call the bus dispatch office and get in an argument with the lady there who told me my bus driver will not wait for me and I need to make other arrangements.  WHAT OTHER ARRANGEMENTS?  Everyone I know works!  And they are all either in center city or on their way back stuck in the SAME traffic jam!  She tells me my husband will need to pick my son up.  Ummm, I'm a single parent.  Then she has the audacity to say that's my problem.  I was so pissed off.

It's not like I can pretend I'm a drive in the Indy 500 or anything.  There's traffic in front of me.  It's not like I'm moseying down the streets window shopping.  I called back again and got a very nice young man who told me to take my time and he would let my bus driver know I was running late.  Things better start looking up soon or I"m going to pull a Rip Van Winkle.

Getting Off To A Great Start

It's the beginning of the New Year and the beginning of the week.  What better way to make sure it's a smashing success than to go to work with your pants on inside out?  Hey, I'm making a fashion statement!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to All!!!  I think I'll let DJ "write" my entry for tonight:

"Now THIS is a party"  (comment made by Dom when the veggie tray came out.)

"It's cooler than you"  (Thoughts shared by DJ regarding the veggie dip in comparison with the best mommy in the world.)

"This is the best New Year's ever!  (Stated on our front steps as we were watching fireworks.)

Best to you all in the upcoming year!!!!

DJ...Speechless

I was over reading djuggler's blog about his son and his entry was regarding his son saying noises over and over again.  DJ started doing this a few months but instead he mimics everyone around him.  And, of course, the TV, commercials, etc.  I've tried mimicing him back but that doesn't work because he thinks that is just too funny (brat!)  Here went our conversation the other day:

Me:  DJ
DJ:  DJ
Me:  DJ, I want to ask you a question.
DJ:  DJ, I want to ask you a question.
Me:  Seriously.
DJ:  Seriously.
Me:  I'm not playing DJ.
DJ:  I'm not playing DJ.
Me:  You want to play?
DJ:  You want to play?
Me:  We the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union...do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
DJ:  Huh?
Me:  (Smile)
DJ:  That's so NOT fair, Mom!

I do know this will only work but for so long.  DJ has one heckuva memory and will memorize ir probably around the 3rd or 4th time I say it to him again.  But I still have the Declaration and the Gettysburg Address under my sleeve.  He, he.  I'm so evil:)  But he always gets the last word in.  ALWAYS!  That's so NOT fair!
